| LDB Appreciates Kegalle Student Talent |

The ‘Lankaputhra Diriya Daruwo’ Art Exhibition was
held at the Kegalle Town Hall on August 4th and 5th,
2008. The exhibition, which put on show the creations
of students of several schools of the Kegalle District,
was declared open by Minister of Finance and State
Revenue and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning,
Honorable Ranjith Siyambalapitiya. 50 Schools of the
Kegalle District participated in the Art competition and
the exhibits comprised the selected works of the
students. The competition was held under three age
categories. 100 entries out of a total of 1,000 were
selected for the final round. The panel of judges was
from the University of Visual and Performance Arts.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the exhibition,
Chairman of Lankaputhra Developme nt Bank, A.
Sarath de Silva said that the Bank commenced its
operations on June 27th, 2006 with the objective of
achieving national development by helping local small
and medium scale industrialists in accordance with the
concept of the Mahinda Chintana. While enlisting the
support of rural entrepreneurs in development, the Bank
also seeks to narrow the gap between the haves and the
have- nots in different parts of the country. Our bank
which is a wholly state owned bank is committed to the progress of local small and medium scale
entrepreneurs. He further said that the Bank has already identified several programmes to bring
these small and medium scale entrepreneurs, who form the backbone of the economy, to national
and international levels.
The Chairman also said that loan facilities at concessionary rates of interest to development
projects and accepting deposits offering attractive terms of interest were among the principal
activities of the Bank. The Bank has introduced a special Lakmuthu Children’s Savings Scheme for
the benefit of the future citizens of this country. In this manner, we could make children partners in
the progress of the country from a tender age, whilst at the same time, providing a fully state
guaranteed and high interest rate paid on deposits. The savings deposits carry an attractive rate of
12% interest while the monies deposited are utilised for future development of the country.
Our children are the assets of our country.
Lankaputhra Development Bank has launched several
schemes to make them partners in the country’s future. de Silva said that he was happy to announce
that this programme which commenced in the Kegalle district would be expanded to cover all the
provinces. The Bank decided to implement such a programme seeking to build the character and
the savings habit of children through the development of knowledge, attitudes and the competitive
spirit of students. He said that another objective was to take Lankaputhra Development Bank as a
state owned bank to the rural people. The Chairman paid a tribute to the teachers who encouraged
the students in drawing, adding that appreciation should be shown to the teachers concerned.
The first prize in the Art competition in the primary division was won by K.P.D.Rajakarunaratne of
the Walagama Roman Catholic Vidyalaya, Kegalle while the first place in the junior section was
won by M.P.U.I.Tillekeratne of the Pannawala Maha Vidyalaya. In the Senior Division, P.K.Ishara
Madhushani Ratnasiri of St. Joseph’s Balika Vidyalaya won the first place.
General Manager of Lankaputhra Development Bank, Siromi Wickremasinghe, Asst. General
Manager Investments and Senior Manager HR and Administration Maxwell Jansz, Chairman of the
Kegalle Urban Council, G. K. Samarasinghe, Principals of Schools and other distinguished invitees
were among those present. |
